About Us

Mission: The PERICO Institute for Youth Development and Entrepreneurship, Inc. (PRIYDE) is a four-year old, 501(3) community -based organization based in Jackson, Mississippi. PRIYDE is governed by principles of faith. The mission of the PRIYDE is to focus solely on youth development in financial literacy, certain apprentice skills, entrepreneurship, and advocacy necessary for success in the work place and the market place. PRIYDE is designed for youth who are the ages 14-21 and who live in the Jackson, Mississippi metropolis.

The desired outcome for PRIYDE is to build business and social awareness and skills in [100] youth during a twelve month period; this awareness and skills development will directly impact and strengthen reading and math competencies, and individual life skill capacities.

Success Breeds Success

The PERICO Institute for Youth Development and Entrepreneurship uses a Renssarlerville Institute (TRI) model that emphasizes outcomes, targets, and milestones. The Executive Director, Johnnie M. Hawkins is a graduate of Tougaloo College, with a B.A. degree in Sociology with an emphasis in Social Work. Johnnie has more than 20 years of experience working with non-profit organizations in resource development, partnership development, marketing and media relations, and volunteer training and development.

The Chairman, Charles L. Perry, is a twice trained participant in outcome-based measurements and has worked intricately with John LaRocca with TRI to develop outcome based programs for Marshall Heights Community Development Organization, Inc.

PRIYDE's outcome-based programs work with youth to become aware of their environment, their purpose in life, and how to exercise that purpose within their given environment to shape and build upon life altering experiences. Youth will learn an occupational trade while learning theoretical approaches to their work, examine daily activities in work ethics, then determine how best to use what they have learned (whether it is business, marketing, journalism, financial literacy, civic activism, etc.) to get what they (youth) want out of life. The core expertise is in the training and development of young people who are interested in business or selected careers.
